Artist's Description

A warm morning in the Utah Desert, on the mesa known as Dead Horse State Park. In the late 1800s Mustangs ran free atop the mesas of Dead Horse Point. The plateau made for a natural corral, and a narrow 30-yard fenced stretch of land made the only escape. Cowboys corralled the wild mustangs through the narrow passage. Then they would break them for their personal use, or sell them at market.

According to legend, after a roundup, a group of horses remained in the corral. Over the following days, they perished of thirst, with the Colorado River a 2,000 foot drop below them.

About Joseph Hawk

Joseph Hawk

Welcome to my gallery. I have been a photographer and videographer in the visual arts space since 2002. I am based in the great state of North Carolina, and have been in the creative sector for 22. My works span from projects in marketing, fashion, and portraiture, as well as digital medias like documentaries, interviews, music videos and educational pieces. On this page, however, you will find my labors of love. As a neuro-divergent, I crave being in natural spaces. Our greatest treasures are the places seldom touched my human hands. I enjoy the quiet solitude of nature. I enjoy the road less traveled, the mountains, the rolling surf on an empty beach. I attempt to capture the stories presented to me as I wander through this world,...
