Artist's Description

The ghost town called Cisco, in southern Utah, just off I-70. The town started in the 1880s as a saloon and water-refilling station. Nearby cattle ranchers and sheep herders in the Book Cliffs north of town began using Cisco as a livestock and provisioning center. After oil and natural gas were discovered, Cisco continued to grow. The town's decline coincided with the demise of the steam locomotive. Cisco's already declining economy crashed when Interstate 70 was built, bypassing Cisco. With continues shale drilling for natural gas, the water table has been contaminated, and the few people who scratch out a living watching over the ghost town, must now drive to Moab for water daily.

About Joseph Hawk

Joseph Hawk

Welcome to my gallery. I have been a photographer and videographer in the visual arts space since 2002. I am based in the great state of North Carolina, and have been in the creative sector for 22. My works span from projects in marketing, fashion, and portraiture, as well as digital medias like documentaries, interviews, music videos and educational pieces. On this page, however, you will find my labors of love. As a neuro-divergent, I crave being in natural spaces. Our greatest treasures are the places seldom touched my human hands. I enjoy the quiet solitude of nature. I enjoy the road less traveled, the mountains, the rolling surf on an empty beach. I attempt to capture the stories presented to me as I wander through this world,...
